House Calls

Jacob finished the briefing and looked at Hammond . “I'd like to gate out in a couple of hours if that's alright.”

Hammond nodded. “Should be fine,” He turned to Jack. “Colonel?”

Jack nodded. “That's fine.” He looked at Jacob suspiciously. “So no surprises or things up Selmak's sleeve you wanna share with us now rather than when we get there?”

Jacob smiled sardonically. “No Jack. Selmak says to tell you the only thing up his sleeve is his knife.”

Jack raised an eyebrow. “And I thought you kept it on your belt.”

Jacob's smile broadened slightly. “That's mine. Selmak has his own.” He pushed his chair back. “I'll see you all in two hours.” He left the room and headed to the quarters assigned to him.

Once there he shut the door and picked up the phone. He dialled the extension he needed and listened for it to be picked up.

“Fraiser,” came the crisp efficient voice.

“Hi,” he said. “I was wondering if you do house calls?”

Janet glanced over at the nurse standing by her desk. “That depends on how far away the house is General.”

Jacob nodded. “You're not alone?”

“The infirmary is rather busy… you sure it can't wait?”

“I have two hours Janet,” he breathed, his voice husky, knowing she couldn't resist that.

Janet smiled slightly. “Where?” she asked. Her brows rose slightly at the reply then she nodded. “Give me five minutes.” She got up and grabbed the file. “I'm going to deliver this then take an early lunch. There is nothing here that you can't handle.”

The nurse nodded. “Yes Doctor.”

Jacob worked quickly. He'd prepared everything in advance as he knew he wouldn't have long. There was a knock on the door and he got up and opened it.

Janet moved inside and smiled as Jacob locked the door to his quarters then took her in his arms and kissed her. She kissed him back and looked past his shoulder. “Wow,” she said.

Jacob grinned and led her by the hand to the blanket. “Lunch is served,” he said. He sat next to her and offered her a glass of juice. “No wine as we're both on duty,” he said.

“But it's my favourite juice,” Janet said. “And you have candles…” She broke off and laughed. “I wondered where those wine bottles went.”

“Selmak suggested I use them as candle holders.”

Janet sipped her juice, “She did, did she?”

Jacob nodded. “Yeah. She also suggested I do this.” He dipped the strawberries in the chocolate and started to hand feed her.

Janet returned the favour and soon all the fruit was gone. She lay on the blanket content to be in the arms of the man she loved. “When do you gate out?” she asked.

Jacob glanced at the clock. “Thirty five minutes,” he said. “We'll be gone about a day and then we'll be back.”

Janet smiled up at him. “And I'll be waiting,” she said. “I owe you dinner now.”

Jacob smiled and kissed her. “You certainly do.”
