Summary: Car journeys + kids = trouble.
Sam sat in the back of the car and swung her legs. She was bored. They had been driving for hours and she was desperate for the restroom but no one was taking any notice of her. She turned to Mark and poked him.
Mark glared at her. She may only be 8 to his 11 but she was a pest. “Mommy Sam poked me!”
Alison flipped the mirror down. “Sam behave.”
Sam looked at her mother. “Mommy I need the bathroom.”
“Next rest stop Sam,” Alison told her. “Why don't you two play nicely?”
Sam glared at Mark and poked him again.
He pulled her hair.
“Mommy! He pulled my hair!”
Alison turned round in her seat. “Keep it down! Daddy is trying to concentrate on driving.”
For a whole three minutes there was silence. Then Sam started fidgeting again. “Are we there yet?”
“No.”
Mark grinned. “How many more miles is it?”
Jacob rolled his eyes. “Five less since you last asked.”
Sam looked at Mark. “Daddy… I really do need to pee.”
Mark poked her again. “No you don't.”
“Do do do.”
“Don't don't don't.”
Jacob looked at them in the mirror. “If I have to stop the car you are going to regret it.”
Silence reigned for a whole minute. Then a little voice said “Daddy… when you stop the car and we regret it. Please can there be a rest room there?”
