Summary: Jacob's first real experience at a base being attacked.

The sound resonated through the tunnels like a sonic boom, vibrating off the crystal walls. Jacob jerked awake wondering what was going on. He'd been busy all day and was still getting used to the difference between his old job and this new one. He lay there for a moment wondering what had woken him. There was another huge bang. <Is it thundering?> he asked Selmak as he turned over trying to go back to sleep.

Selmak shoved him awake properly. <No, the base is under attack> she said taking control of their body and jumping out of bed. She paused wondering what kind of an outfit they were sleeping in but now was not the time to go into that. She grabbed her uniform tunic and put it on running into the hallway.

Martouf stood there. “Ba'al.” he said without further explanation.

Selmak nodded. “I will see to my section.” She ran down the corridor, as more explosions shook the entire base.

<Selmak?> Jacob asked, a rush of something filling him. He recognised it as fear. He'd been under attack before, flown planes that had been fired on, been on the ground during an air raid, but this was new.

Another explosion thundered through, the vibration bringing down the tunnel in front of them. Selmak reacted quickly, keeping out of the way just in time. <It will be okay> she assured him. <We make sure our section is clear then we evacuate through the Chappa'ai.>

Jacob nodded.

Selmak hugged him as she checked the last of her part of the base. <It is part of our life now> she said. <Something you will unfortunately have to get used to.> She ran back through the tunnels to the gate and left with the others. The silence on the other side was as deafening as the explosions had been. But they were safe and that was all that mattered.
