Under the Darkening Moon
By Tels

The sky was completely black aside from the spattering of stars and a full moon just starting to peep over the edge of the stone circle monolith on the horizon. The two figures stood there and looked at it. Somewhat like Stonehenge on Earth, although neither of them had ever been there or were ever likely too. A chill wind suddenly blew round him as she pulled him in for a kiss.

He willingly responded, opening his mouth to hers, his tongue fighting for dominance but willingly submitting as hers was more insistent. Then he tipped his head back in ecstasy as she moved her lips slowly and tantalisingly down his neck. She aroused him like nothing he'd ever felt before. Then suddenly there was agonising pain. He cried out fighting her, feeling his life force draining from him as her teeth sank into his neck.

He went limp in her arms, unable to fight anymore. His eyes glowed faintly. “Please,” he whispered.

“Don't fight me,” she whispered, her cold dark eyes looking at him. “You'll thank me later.” She moved her lips back to his neck, draining the life blood from him, making him hers, turning him to the dark side.

He had no recollection of how he got home. The last thing he remembered was pain and then thinking he was dying. The next he was laying on the sand the other side of the gate, a bag in his hand. Glancing at the sky he saw dawn was fast approaching and something told him he had to get inside fast. He ringed down and returned to his chambers, the faint glow of the blue crystal annoying now rather than comforting. He could feel nothing from Jared. No thoughts or comments. It was as if Jared no longer existed, he couldn't even sense his biorhythms.

Malek made his way to the healing chambers, wanting to make sure Jared was alright. He sat through Elise's examination, making vague responses and ignoring her comments about the marks on his neck. “An insect bite,” he said when she insisted. “What about Jared?”

Elise looked at him. “I can't find his life signs… I'm sorry, I don't understand how but it looks as if Jared is dead.”

Malek looked at her confused. “Then I must be too,” he said. “I don't understand.” He stood up.

“Please sit, let me run more tests.”

He shook his head. “Let me go.” He went back to his chamber, the uniform tight and restricting and he just wanted out of it. He didn't feel as if he belonged here now. His host was dead, but how then was he still alive?

He changed his clothes, out of the dark brown leather into the clothes that were in the bag he'd brought back with him. White high necked shirt, black pants and red velvet waist coat with 8 buttons on. Full length satin black cloak, lined with red satin. Long black boots and white gloves. The finishing touch was the red ribbon with the cross on. He held it in his hand thinking of Jared. Why was he dead while he was still living? The clue must be on the planet.

He lay down on his bed, the thought of venturing out into the sunlight scaring him for some unknown reason. He woke shortly after sunset and rose, moving stealthily though the tunnels to the rings. He nodded to the guards who let him pass unchallenged. Reaching the surface he returned to the planet, feeling drawn to it.

She was there waiting for him. “I knew you'd come back,” she told him. “You are one of us now Malek.”

“I do not understand,” he said. Glancing round he realised that several others were dressed like him.

“One of us,” she repeated. “Creatures of the dark… night beings. Living off the blood of the living.”

Malek looked at her. He could see the moonlight reflecting off her teeth, long pointed teeth that he could feel his tongue running over in his own mouth. “What have you done to me?” he whispered, backing away.

She smiled at him. “Nothing you didn't want,” she told him. “You offered yourself to me, just like I shall to you.” She moved over to him, baring her neck and offering it to him. “Taste me Malek and I will be forever yours.”

Malek moved unwittingly almost, the desire to have her in his arms filling him. He pulled her close, her scent filling his senses. He kissed her taking in her taste, his tongue plundering her before running down her neck, finding what he sought and needed. His teeth broke her skin and she arched in his arms in delight, her taste running over his tongue and filling him like nothing else could.
