Summary: Malek finds someone who stands up to him

And?

Elise put her hands on her hips and glared at Malek. "AND???" she demanded. "Just which part of being a base commander means you do not have to follow orders?"

Malek looked at her. “The part which says I give the orders round here.” He took a step backwards as Elise made her way round the desk to him. He noticed the way her eyes glinted in the soft light reflecting off his office walls.

She looked at him, purposely backing him into the corner. “Just because we are involved now does not give you the right to skip things,” she told him. “Time was when you and Jared were all too eager to get in my healing chambers without your shirt on.”

Malek kept eye contact not wanting to lose face here. He tuned out Jared's hysterical laughter. “That was different!” he said firmly.

“How so?” she demanded. “You expect everyone to follow orders do you not? And your standing orders stipulate that once every six months, every Tok'ra on this base undergo a full medical check up do they not?”

Malek nodded. “Yes but…”

She looked at him sternly. “"No buts... except yours! In the healing chambers in 3 minutes or I do your check up here.” She tilted her head on one side. “There is the easy way or the hard way … one involves big needles and one doesn't.”

Malek looked at her. “You Will Not. I have a meeting scheduled in here in 15 minutes time.”

Elise just looked at him. “Then you'd best get to the healing chambers hadn't you?”

Malek just stood there dumbfounded. Until Jared took control. “You are kidding about the needles?” he asked.

She just shook her head. “Two minutes thirty seconds,” she told him. “I am head healer on this base and right now I outrank you. GO! NOW!”

Jared moved fast. He knew her well enough to know she would carry out her threat and as much as he wanted to see how far she'd go, he had an important meeting and really didn't want the head of the high council walking in on that.

Elise smiled as she watched him move. She actually wouldn't have gone through with her threat but it was nice to know he thought she would. And maybe she could try this one again later. When they had time to play.

How?

Malek summoned Elise to his office as soon as the meeting was over. "How Dare you?" he began. He fixed his steely glare on her the instant she was in the room.

She had known this was coming but it wasn't her fault. How was she to know the council would arrive early and insist on doing a tour of the base, coming into the healing chambers just as she was examining Malek, catching him in a very compromising position? “Malek I…” she began.

He held up a hand to silence her. “It could have waited until now,” he said bluntly. It had been bad enough having to suffer the indignity of a complete check up without the council members walking in on it.

“No it could not,” she argued. “Malek you have been putting it off for weeks. So has Jared. You put everyone else on this base first letting your own health suffer as a result. Well no more.” She put her hands on her hips and looked at him.

His eyes narrowed further. “Don't you look at me in that tone of voice,” he said darkly. “Just remember your position here depends on my good will.”

“What?” she said shocked, her stance changing.

Malek continued. “Just because we are mates now does not mean your position here is secure.” He moved back over to the desk and sat down. “You can be transferred out or sent on a mission as easily as the next person can.”

Her stomach dropped and turned within her. “I see,” she whispered.

He didn't meet her gaze, concentrating on his paperwork. He knew if he looked up he would crack and he couldn't have that. “Jared and I have given great thought to this and we do not do it lightly.”

Elise took a deep breath. “I'm sorry,” she said.

“It's too late for sorry. The damage is done.”

“You need to take care of yourself Malek… no one can do it for you. You can't be an effective base commander if you are not taking your own health into consideration.” Elise argued knowing he was no longer listening to her.

“Don't you argue with me!” he snapped standing up. “You will pack your things.” He handed her the padd. “New orders.”

Elise looked stunned and reached a trembling hand out for the padd. She looked down at it wondering where he was sending her. Then her eyes lifted to his and clouded slightly as she saw the expression on his face. “You…!” She muttered and lashing out with her left hand decked him, sending him flying to the floor.

Why?

Before Malek had chance to move, Elise was over there with a foot resting firmly on his chest. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at him.

Malek raised a hand to his jaw and rubbed it. “Why?” he managed. It didn't feel broken but it really hurt.

<Don't think she found it funny Mal> Jared moaned.

“Why?” Elise huffed. “ Why?? ” her voice rose. “You actually have the audacity to lie there and ask why?”

Malek tried to get up but the foot on his chest pushed him back harder. “Why did you hit me?” he repeated.

“Because you are an arrogant pain at times Malek. You have a twisted sense of humour that no one understands.”

He looked at her confused.

Elise shook her head. “You don't get it do you? You have an IQ of 154 and the brain power of a box of rocks.” She shook her head. “Talia's mother was right. Male does equal dunce and you just proved it.” She moved her foot. “I thought you cared about me.”

Malek got up. “We do… what is wrong with you?”

“ME?” Elise turned away. “Forget it…” She managed three steps before strong arms grabbed her swinging her round. “Let go of me!”

“Not until you tell me what I did,” Malek said. “Sometimes we dense males just don't get it until it is explained in words of one syllable.”

“Now you're mocking me.”

“No… just explain please.”

“I thought you were sending us away… that you no longer wanted us.”

Malek looked at her. “Nothing could be further from the truth,” he told her, pulling her close and kissing her soundly to prove it to her.

Elise started to struggle then gave in, her arms going round him, kissing him back.

“The only place we want you is by our side,” Malek told her. “Just don't try pulling a stunt like that again.”

“Or you,” she replied. “Or next time it will be big needles.” She smirked and kissed him again.

What?

After a long few minutes Malek broke the kiss for air and looked at her. “Did you really think I would want to transfer you?” he asked quietly, running a hand though her hair.

Elise leaned into his touch. “I did,” she whispered. “At first I wasn't sure but then when you handed me the note and told me to go and pack…” She looked down, her cheeks colouring. “I thought I had pushed you too far. You know I will follow every order you give as will everyone on this base.”

He nodded.

“But we don't want you getting sick either. And as head healer I outrank you in some matters. You had put off that check up for so long and I know you and all the other men hate it, but the women have one just the same, worse in fact.”

Jared looked at her. “How could it possibly be worse?” he asked her, the mere thought of that particular exam making him squirm.

Elise just raised an eyebrow and looked at him. “Trust me on that one,” she said. “So when you made all that fuss and threatened to transfer me and then told me to pack…”

Jared nodded. “You thought the note would be your transfer details.” As she nodded, Malek hugged her. “When what the note actually said was move your stuff into my quarters on a permanent basis.”

She nodded. “This is why I was so mad. Because I honestly thought…”

Malek silenced her by kissing her. Then he pulled her over to the desk. “Come here and let me show you how much I love you,” he told her.

Elise pushed him back slightly. “This is your office,” she muttered.

“What's that got to do with anything,” he told her. He pulled her down onto his lap. “I mean it's not like the council are gonna walk in on us is it?” he raised an eyebrow at her.

“Malek…” she protested, her protests dying as he started kissing her again. Maybe she should argue with him more often, she wondered if this was going to be the end result.

Malek continued kissing and touching her, determined to make her cry out and smiled in satisfaction when she did. He didn't care that they were in his office. She was his mate and he loved her. And her giving him orders was more of a turn on than he would ever admit to anyone.

Elise fell against him, her head on his shoulder and her breathing slowly returning to normal. “Brat,” she whispered.

There was a discrete cough from the door and Malek looked up suppressing his grin. Revenge was sweet. “Come in Garshaw,” he said. “What can I do for you now?”
