Changing Rooms at the SGC
By Tels

Looking at his watch Jack could see he had precisely 9 hours and 35 minutes til FT or flash time as he and Teal'c had taken to terming it. He knew if they took this loop off they could do what they wanted and get away with it and the more he thought about decorating the more he wanted to. A few loops ago he and Teal'c had seen this programme on TV called Changing Rooms in which your neighbour or best friend totally trashed your home with the help of an “expert” in 48 hours. Well he only had Teal'c and just over 9 hours but he reckoned he could do something.

FT minus 9 hrs
They had found what they needed in a store room on level 15. Must have been ordered by mistake Jack decided as the paint was the most lurid shade of orange you could ever hope to see. They had also found some left over red from the lines painted on the floor everywhere. Teal'c hadn't taken much persuading… he actually wanted to paint the quarters of the airman who slammed the door open in his face at the start of each loop. The more Jack thought about that the more he decided that would keep for another loop. Perhaps something slightly more inventive than paint.

The worst part had been persuading General Hammond to leave his office. Especially as he and Teal'c were meant to be in that eternal briefing. Jack did something he always wanted to do. He smashed the fire alarm and set the alarms ringing throughout the base. Then while everyone, including Hammond were busy evacuating the building, he and Teal'c snuck into Hammonds office with the paint.

FT minus 8hrs 30mins
After the false fire alarm, Jack had arranged for Hammond to have to go into Denver for a very important meeting. The details of which were so secret that even he didn't know. Just that Hammond had to be there at 11am . That would hopefully give them enough time to do what they wanted.

The room finally devoid of furniture, Jack and Teal'c laid sheeting over the carpet as they didn't want to get paint on the carpet. Admittedly it wouldn't be there tomorrow but even so…

FT minus 7hrs
Teal'c put on his shades. This orange certainly was bright if nothing else. It was slow going. It had taken them 50 minutes to do one wall.

FT minus 6hrs 30mins
There was a knock at the door. This made Jack jump and knock the tin of orange paint over Teal'c. Teal'c glared at him and promptly flicked the paint brush at Jack. The knocking at the door went unanswered as a full blown paint fight ensued.

Daniel looked at Sam and raised his eyebrows. Sam opened the door to be greeted by a face full of orange paint. She stepped back in shock. “Sir?!” she managed finally clearing her eyes. Jack looked at her. Two blue eyes in a totally orange face. He put on his best ignorant face and looked at her. “Carter?”

FT minus 5hrs 45mins
It had taken 25 precious minutes to persuade Sam and Daniel to help. Then it had taken a rather large bribe on his part in order to convince them that 1 – they wouldn't get any of the blame for this. 2 – they wouldn't get any of the blame for this. 3 – there was a very expensive dinner and front row seats at any theatre production of their choice and 4 – they wouldn't get any of the blame for this.

FT minus 4hrs 45mins
With 4 of them now helping they had finished 3 walls and were all wearing shades. Daniel picked up the tin of red. “What are you doing with this one?” he asked.
“Stripes.”
“STRIPES???”
Teal'c just nodded. “Indeed.”

FT minus 4hrs
The phone on Hammond 's desk rang. Of course that was still in the hall so Jack laid down his paint brush and went to answer it, hiding the sigh of relief. It really was hard on the eyes in the office now. “ Hammond 's phone,”
He flinched and held the phone away from his ear as Hammond yelled at him down it. “Yes Sir… see you in an hour then.” He went back into the office. “We have an hour. Better hurry.”

FT minus 3hrs
The furniture was back in place, pictures back on walls and Sam and Daniel had left the building just to be safe. Or that's what they had told Jack. In reality they had gone to the commissary to see if they had orange jello for dessert.

FT minus 2hrs 57mins
"COLONEL O'NEILL!!!!! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!?!?!?!"

FT minus 2hrs 56mins 30secs
"IN THE MIDDLE OF MY DECORATING?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?"

FT minus 2hrs 50mins
General Hammond's scream of rage had been heard throughout the SGC mainly due to his hand being on the tannoy button at the time. His next cry had been for security to remove Col O'Neill from his sight and place him in the brig. Along with Teal'c.

FT minus 2hrs 30mins
Jack sat with his back against the wall throwing the ball against the wall on the far side of the room. “So T,” he said. “What shall we do tomorrow?” He paused. “Hey do ya suppose we would get as far as Washington …”
“No.”
Jack threw the ball again.

FT minus 2hrs
The main cell door opened and Daniel came in. “Hey,” he said.
Jack looked up. “Hey yourself. How's Hammond ?”
Daniel pursed his lips. “Seeing stripes.”
Jack laughed. “I bet… hey maybe next time we'll make it red, white and blue… paint the flag on the wall instead.”
“Are you trying to get yourself shot? I hear he's going for a court martial for you.”

FT minus 1hr
The door opened and Hammond came in. “Colonel O'Neill… I thought I would bring you something to eat. Even a condemned man… which incidentally you are… has a last meal. They will be transferring you to Peterson soon for your court martial.”
Jack looked at his watch. “Sure… sounds good to me.” He took the tray. “So what's for dinner?” He took off the lids and closed his eyes as Hammond started laughing.
Orange jello, orange potatoes, orange fish and baked beans. All of which smelt of fresh paint.

FT minus 10 mins
Jack let the guards cuff him without a fight. Then they let him lead him from the cells and towards the main gate. He looked at Sam as they passed her and blew her a kiss. The for the sheer lets wind him up-ness of it, blew Hammond and Daniel one too.

FT minus 5mins
The elevator was slow on a good day and today was even slower than normal. Jack whistled to himself then looked at Teal'c and raised an eyebrow. He got a nod in return and both men started singing Row Row Row your boat as a round.

FT minus 1min
The elevator doors finally opened on the main level and the guards led the still singing Jack and Teal'c to the sign out sheet. Jack wondered how he was meant to sign out with no hands but glancing at the clock realised it really didn't matter. The sun was setting on the day at last.

FLASH TIME

FT minus 9hrs 45mins
Daniel looked at him. “Anyway I'm sorry but that just happens to be how I feel about it. What do you think?”
Jack dropped the spoon. “Here we go again!” he muttered.
