The commissary was packed with SGC and Tok'ra personnel. General Hammond thought that it might be a way to further cement relations between the two peoples if they had a joint party to celebrate the New Year. The fact that both were also celebrating the defeat of the attempt on Jacob and Selmak's life just gave the party an added lift.
There was more of the eggnog and Selmak took great delight in telling people how it was made. She noticed their faces and wondered if she had reacted the same when Jacob told her how it was made.
<Yes you did> he chortled.
<Well it was pretty nasty at first> she said. <But it grows on you… like the mistletoe thing.>
Jacob laughed . <I think you took that to the extreme though> he said remembering how she had insisted on mistletoe in every room.
Selmak blushed. <But it did the trick> she said as Janet came over to them and slid her hand into theirs.
Jacob smiled at her and kissed her. “Hey,” he said. “You managed to get away then?”
Janet nodded. “Yup, for a while. Have to be back just after midnight though. Some of SG7 are still pretty sick.” She looked at him. “You just behave yourself once I am gone.”
Jacob grinned. “Yes Ma'am.”
Just before midnight , as the crystal ball dropped in Times Square someone started the countdown. “Ten… nine… eight…” Everyone raised their glasses, joined in and cheered as they reached zero. “Happy New Year!”
The Tok'ra thought this was strange, but not as strange as what happened next.
Everyone grabbed hands and started shaking their linked arms up and down and singing in a very strange language. “Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, And auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear, For auld lang syne, We'll tak a cup of kindness yet, For auld lang syne!”
Then they started hugging and kissing each other. Selmak wasn't quite sure how to take the sudden influx of slightly drunken women who hugged and kissed Jacob. <Uh Jacob… there's no mistletoe> she said.
<Nope.> he laughed as he kissed some SGC officer he'd never seen before.
<Does she desire our body too?> Selmak asked.
<Nope> Jacob answered. He grabbed one of the medics as she went past and kissed her too.
<SO WHAT IS GOING ON??> Selmak shrieked.
Jacob paused. <It's new year Selmak, I explained this. Out with the old and in with the new. It's a way of celebrating the passage of time.>
<Ah I see. Another excuse for a party>
<Something like that.>
Selmak looked at Jack and General Hammond across the room. <May I come fore Jacob?> she asked.
Jacob nodded and relinquished control.
Selmak moved swiftly across the room. “Colonel O'Neill I believe this is traditional.” She pulled him into a hug.
<No! Not the men. You do NOT kiss the men!!!> Jacob spluttered.
Sam laughed at the unusual sight of her Dad hugging Jack tightly. She guessed it was Selmak in control and the photo that Daniel had just taken would be worth much in the years to come. “Happy New Year Dad… Colonel!”
