Summary: falling in love is like lightening
Jacob looked across the room at the woman in the white coat standing there. It was as if he had been struck by lightening. He couldn't move or speak for a moment, just stood there mesmerised.
Sam nudged him. “Dad? Are you alright?”
He looked at her and nodded. “Yeah I'm fine.”
Sam smiled. “Good. Janet?” she called.
<So that was her name> Jacob commented as the vision of beauty turned and smiled. He could feel Selmak's emotions too. <Not just me then?> he asked her.
Selmak managed to squeak a <No> just as Janet stood next to them. <She is wearing cologne…>
Sam looked at Jacob and then said “Dad this is Dr Janet Fraiser, the base CMO and my best friend. Janet this is my Dad, General Jacob Carter.”
Janet held out a hand, her eyes sparkling. “Nice to meet you at last General. I've heard much about you.”
Jacob shook her hand, aware of how the softness of them belied the firmness of her grip. “And none of it good I'm sure.”
Sam shot him a look. “Well I will leave you to your check up and see you later.”
Jacob nodded. “See you later.” He hugged Sam and watched her leave. Then he turned back to Janet.
“If you'd like to take a seat on the bed Sir, I will be with you in a moment,” she told him.
He nodded and did as she asked him. <Wow> he thought. <Shame I don't stand a chance.>
<We won't know unless you ask her.>
Janet walked over to gather her equipment. ‘Get a grip girl!' she thought. ‘He's Sam's father and way older than you and there is no way he'd be interested.'
Jacob looked at her as she came back over. He submitted to her exam and then looked at her as he was putting his shirt back on. “Are you doing anything tonight?” he asked. Then he paused. “That is… would you… Would you like to join me for dinner?”
Janet looked at him. “Really?” she asked her eyes lighting up.
Jacob nodded.
“I'd love to,” she said.
