Lumière
He put his hand up as the bright light shone directly into his eyes. “Who are you?” he asked.
“I ask the questions!” came the reply.
<Like you didn't see that one coming> came the voice within him.
He shrugged. <I had to try.> He shifted on the stool. His feet were bare and the clothes he had been given barely fitted him. “What do you want?” he asked.
The voice was harsh and grating as it replied. “You know what I want. Your name and where you came from.”
He took a deep breath. “As my host would say, Naff Off!” he hissed. He tried to stand up and moved back with a cry of pain as soon as his feet touched the electrified gratings on the floor.
<Do me a favour. Don't do that again please…>
He curled up tighter on the stool. <No worries on that score.>
“Your name… I assume you have one?”
“My name,” he whispered. “I have had many names… which do you want?” He cried out again as pain shot through him.
“Your current one!” the voice told him. “You tell me your name and the pain stops. You resist and you will die.”
The Tok'ra curled up tighter gasping for breath. “Then we will die free and silent,” he said slowly. He squinted up at the figure he knew was standing beyond the light. “As many times as it takes.”
The figure nodded moving into the light slightly. “Then die.”
Orange pain shot out from his hand and engulfed him. His body arched and he knew no more. Until a bright white light burned against his eyes and the cycle started again.
