Selmak through the looking glass
By Tels

Selmak wandered slowly through the rose garden wondering where in the universe she was. She had gone though the gate on what she had thought was a routine mission only she wasn't where she should be. She should be in Mantra. A small market town where she could trade for the supplies they needed. This was not Mantra. This was somewhere else altogether.

The roses appeared to be dripping almost. She reached out and touched one and found her hand covered in red paint. “Now that's strange,” she said aloud. She walked a bit further and came across a table with a cake labelled eat me.

<No you don't> Jacob told her. < Alice did that and grew taller.>

Selmak scoffed at him. <That was a book. It won't happen. Sides I'm hungry.> She picked up and cake and broke a bit off a tiny bit. <See> she said. <Not growing or shrinking…> She finished the cake and walked further down the path.

Suddenly a rabbit wearing a waistcoat and glasses came running past her. It stopped and looked at her and proceeded to tell her in Malek's voice that she was late for a very important council meeting and that she should hurry.

She looked blankly at it. “I'm sorry.”

The rabbit waggled its whiskers at her and bounded away.

Selmak shook her head. She continued down the path past someone who appeared to be painting the roses she had observed dripping earlier. “Why are you painting them?” she asked.

“Because we were told to,” he replied again in Malek's voice. “And you are late. You should hurry.”

Footsteps behind her made her turn. Delek stood there wearing a large tabard that looked very much like a playing card. He had a large flamingo under his arm. “Off with her head!” he said hitting a hedgehog with the flamingo. Then he looked at Selmak. “Aren't you late?” he asked.

Selmak suddenly heard someone calling her name, She opened here eyes and found Malek looking at her.

“I'm sorry,” she said. “I must have dozed off.”

Malek smiled. “You're late,” he told her. “The rest of your team are waiting for you by the gate. They are expecting you on Mantra.”
