Title: The proof of the pudding…

Prompt: #59 Food
Summary: What if WOO had affected a Tok'ra base as well. What would Sel have got up to?

Selmak sighed and looked at the padd in front of her. Then decided that yes she would take this cycle off too. Sure she'd spent the last several goofing off but if she had to relive the same day over and over, then she deserved a little fun. Although it would have been better if it had been a day when something actually happened, a fight or a council meeting she could go to in different outfits for example.

She was the only one on the base who realised that something was very wrong and hoped that she would either be able to work out a solution or that SG1 would. This had to be their fault as it seemed the type of thing they would do. They seemed to delight in meddling in things they shouldn't go anywhere near. And if it wasn't their fault then they would no doubt realise they were out of contact and do something to find them.

Selmak put the padd down and wondered what she could do. Then she had the most marvellous idea. She rummaged through Jacob's memories for a while, being careful not to wake him up. Then she set off through the tunnels to the eating commons. She knew Jacob was tired of what he had to eat here. He kept complaining it wasn't proper food. So she would do something about it.

Admittedly she had never done anything like this in her life, cooking not being her forte, but she was prepared to give it a go. She gave the instructions to the cooks and then supervised using Jacob's memories. Fortunately he had, on a number of occasions, cooked this dish and he seemed to enjoy it. She just hoped he would like her version of it. Naturally some of the ingredients they did not have but it was close enough and it certainly smelt appetising enough. But as Jacob always said, the proof of the pudding was in the eating.

Title: Is in the eating
Word count: 462
Prompt: #57 lunch

Jacob woke to find himself in the eating commons with no idea of how he got here or anything else. <Sel?> he asked.

<Just wait and see> she replied. <We need Malek before I can tell you.>

<Why? What have you done?>

<Well I got bored and did not wish to spend the day doing those translations again so I took the day off.>

<AGAIN??>

Selmak paused. <Yeah again, but I promise it will be worth it.>

<Hmmm we'll see. Something smells good though>

<It is a surprise. Oh good here is Malek.>

Malek came in and over to Jacob. “So what gives?” he asked.

“I have no idea,” Jacob replied. “Selmak wouldn't tell me until you got here.”

Malek looked at him. “Selmak?” he asked.

Selmak came fore and looked at him. “I cooked lunch.”

Malek looked at her weird. “You cooked lunch?” he repeated.

Selmak nodded. “Just for you and Jacob. Something he really likes and I thought you might too.” She looked at the servers and nodded. <Since you complain about the food so often I took the recipe from your memories.>

Two plates with lids appeared in front of Jacob and Malek. They lifted the lids off and left them to eat.

“It's Spaghetti Bolognese,” Selmak grinned. “Jacob's favourite.”

<Oh Sel. Thank you!> Jacob said coming fore to eat it. < I haven't had this in months.>

<Don't thank me til you have tried it> she said. <I had to change some of the ingredients but it should still resemble what it looks like.>

Malek took a mouthful. “This is really good,” he said, chewing quickly. He swallowed and shoved another mouthful in as fast as he could. “Selmak will have to teach the chef how to make this,” he said. “It makes a nice change from what they normally serve.”

Jacob picked up his fork and took a mouthful. He tried not to gag as his senses revolted as the flavour. He just could not work out what the spice was. His throat burned as he swallowed and he coughed slightly. Grabbing the water he drained half the glass, not wanting to upset Selmak as she had made it especially for him.

Malek looked at him. “Are you alright?” he asked with his mouthful.

Jacob nodded. “Went down the wrong way,” he said coughing again.

<What is wrong?> Selmak asked. <Is it not to your liking?>

<I just wasn't expecting it to be that… hot> Jacob replied diplomatically. <What did you put in the sauce?>

Selmak giggled. <That is the secret ingredient> she told him. <Between me and the sauce.>

Jacob topped up his water and put more salt on his meal and ate slowly, listening to Malek enthuse over it and feeling Selmak glow in her triumph.
