Shades of Grey
By Tels
There was black and white he reflected as he pulled off his uniform for the last time and then there was grey. But there were many shades of grey. There was grey so dark it was almost black. And grey so light it was almost white. The actions of those were almost indiscernible from sheer evil and outright good. However grey never crossed the line. But this? Did this count as crossing the line?
He looked at his reflection as he shed the last of his uniform. He had been a disappointment to everyone, those he worked with, his team mates, colleagues and allies. But that he could live with. Maybe it really didn't matter anymore. After all he had to be true to himself did he not? What was it they had told him? Above all else to thine own self be true. Then this was the right course of action.
~Are you sure? ~ His sometime voice of reason asked.
~Leave it! I am not going to debate this with myself. Nor am I going to deny my true self any longer. ~
~So you are leaving then? Going over to what they term the dark side? ~
~Keep out of it. It does not concern you. ~ He pushed the voice of conscience firmly back. ~I am who I am and I will not deny my true nature any longer. ~
The small voice within him cried out as it felt itself pushed back into nothingness. He smiled slightly. He had succeeded. Taken them all in. They said he was a traitor, that his actions had denied their very way of doing things. Well he would show them. He would do things his way from now on and get things done for the good of those who followed him.
It would be them begging to have him back before much longer. He continued to repress the light side of him. The shade of grey he had always been, becoming darker until finally it was indistinguishable form black. He smiled. The transformation was complete.
He finished changing, the clothes he now wore neither one colour nor the other. Perhaps that is what he now was, neither fully light nor fully dark, without colour or side. He had many facets, each side finely honed. He was many things to many people, but no more. Now he would work for himself, for his own ends.
He moved swiftly to where they were waiting for him, to see him off and say goodbye. He knew they would all be there but what they were expecting would not be what they got. He looked at their faces as he reached the gate. Each pair of eyes filled with questions and hurt and wonderment. This turned to shock as Delek pulled the zat from beneath his robe and swiftly executed the traitors before he moved to the DHD and activated it. A single strand of light brown hair fell into his eyes. He was finally himself now. Not bowing to anyone. It had taken him a while to gain the trust of this base but he'd fooled them all. As he would at the next and the next until there were no Tok'ra left.
