Egeria's Legacy
By Tels
Malek sat in his quarters reflecting on the past few days. He had been summoned to Pangar at the request of SG1 to help refine a drug they were using. His pleasure if that was the right word at finding the Pangarans had made this drug by exploiting a Goa'uld queen had turned to anger and dismay when SG1 discovered it was in fact Egeria, the founder of the Tok'ra they were using.
He'd lost a friend too, Kelmaa, who had sacrificed her life that Egeria had a chance at life. However it hadn't worked and Egeria had lived just long enough to save the Pangarans. Malek closed his eyes, seeing the scene play out in front of him again.
Malek knelt at the bed side. "Egeria, it is an honour."
Egeria looked at him. "Rise, Malek. You are not my servant. Kelmaa was generous in giving her life to free me, but I am afraid it is too late."
"Save your strength, my queen. Your people need you, now more than ever."
"Kelmaa's assessment of my condition was correct, Malek. My time is almost done. I shall not live long enough to see more of my children. My host has shared her knowledge of the Tok'ra with me. You are beyond my greatest hopes and dreams."
Malek rose slowly and made his way through the tunnels. They would be burying their queen in a few short moments. The council had ordered her body to lie in state as befitted her station. They were her children and should honour her.
He stood in front of the gate. Her body shrouded now and placed on the raised platform. It was strange. She was his mother and his queen. He was both her son and her subject.
Her children stood round the foot of the gate, honouring their queen, the founder of their resistance movement. Her legacy would live on in her children. She would not see her quest fail. Her children would carry on her work until the last one of them fell or they won the fight their mother and queen had begun.
